Description
Issued in 2001, Uruguay Scott #1902 commemorates the 50th anniversary of the Montevideo Anfitrión Lions Club (1951–2001), honoring one of the country’s most prominent civic service organizations. The Lions Clubs International movement has played a major role in Uruguay’s social and charitable life, and this stamp reflects the nation’s tradition of recognizing volunteerism and community leadership through its postal issues.
The modern, graphic design features a stylized letter “A” for Anfitrión (“Host”), with flowing ribbon-like bands suggesting continuity, service, and outreach. The Lions Club emblem appears in the upper corner, linking the local Montevideo chapter to the international organization. Printed by Pablo Solari, Uruguay’s longtime security and stamp printer, the stamp combines crisp typography with clean, contemporary line work, making it a striking example of early 21st-century Uruguayan philatelic design.
This example is Mint Never Hinged (MNH), with full original gum and no mounting marks, making it ideal for collectors building a high-quality modern Uruguay collection or a topical collection focused on service organizations and international clubs.
