Description

Issued in 1923, United States Scott #576 features a portrait of President Warren G. Harding and is part of the Fourth Bureau definitive series. This issue reflects the Bureau of Engraving and Printing’s transition toward more standardized and durable stamp designs during the early 20th century, with clean typography and strong engraved detail intended for everyday postal use.

The stamp depicts Harding in profile, framed within a circular medallion bearing the inscription “United States Postage.” Printed in a muted brown tone, the design emphasizes dignity and restraint, qualities characteristic of Bureau-era definitives. The 1½-cent denomination was commonly used for printed matter and bulk mailings, making it an essential workhorse of its time.

This offering is a mint never hinged (MNH) block of four, retaining full original gum with no hinge marks, disturbances, or thinning. All four stamps are well centered for the issue, with intact perforations and strong, even color throughout. Blocks of this issue in true never-hinged condition are increasingly difficult to find, as many were broken up for singles or hinged in albums.

As a multiple, this block is especially appealing to collectors of U.S. definitives, Bureau issues, and Harding material, as well as those seeking premium-condition examples for specialized collections.
