United States First Flight Cover – Toledo, Ohio to Detroit, Michigan (1928)
Franked with Scott #C10 (10¢ Lindbergh Airmail)

This authentic U.S. First Flight Cover documents early airmail service from Toledo, Ohio to Detroit, Michigan, flown on June 4, 1928. The cover bears a clear Toledo, Ohio Jun 4, 1928 (2:00 AM) postmark and a bold circular FIRST FLIGHT / AIR MAIL / NEW YORK – CHICAGO cachet with airplane design, commonly used during the expansion of overnight and intercity airmail routes in this period.

The envelope is properly franked with Scott #C10, the famous 10¢ Lindbergh airmail stamp, depicting the Spirit of St. Louis. Use of the C10 on first flight and early airmail covers is highly appropriate and strongly collected, directly linking the cover to the golden age of American aviation.

A red-white-and-blue VIA AIR MAIL etiquette is affixed across the center. The cover is addressed to Mr. Ellsworth Lumley, Detroit, Mich., and shows normal handling wear consistent with genuine flown mail. The reverse bears a Detroit receiving postmark, confirming completion of the flight.

First flight covers from 1928 illustrate the rapid build-out of regional air routes connecting Midwestern industrial centers. This example, flown between Toledo and Detroit, represents an important short-haul link in the developing national airmail network and makes a strong addition to collections of U.S. airmail, Lindbergh-era material, or early aviation postal history.
