Description
Issued in 1975, United Arab Emirates Scott #103–104 are definitive stamps featuring the national emblem of the UAE, a stylized falcon carrying a shield that represents the federation of the seven emirates. These issues continue the visual identity established in the country’s earliest stamp designs following independence in 1971.
Both stamps show the falcon with wings fully spread, symbolizing strength, vigilance, and unity. At the center is a circular emblem depicting a dhow sailing on waves, referencing the UAE’s long maritime and trading heritage. Arabic inscriptions identify the state and postal authority, while the English name “United Arab Emirates” appears below, reflecting the bilingual presentation used throughout UAE definitives.
The 5-dirham stamp (Scott #103) is printed in a teal-green color, while the 10-dirham stamp (Scott #104) appears in a bold magenta tone, creating a visually striking high-value pair. The clean, graphic design and strong colors make these stamps especially recognizable among early UAE issues.
These examples are offered used, with visible cancellations, intact perforations, and solid color. An excellent pair for collectors of Middle Eastern philately, national emblems, and UAE definitive series.
