Description
Issued in 1997, Ukraine Scott #260a is a scenic se-tenant strip from the series “Fauna of Ukraine”, depicting two of the country’s most iconic wild animals, the Eurasian lynx (Lynx lynx) and the brown bear (Ursus arctos). The issue celebrates Ukraine’s diverse forest ecosystems and the wildlife that inhabits its mountainous and woodland regions.
The strip consists of three connected stamps. On the left, the lynx is shown standing alert on a rocky outcrop, its spotted coat, tufted ears, and powerful stance captured in fine naturalistic detail. On the right, the brown bear is depicted in a grounded, realistic pose, emphasizing its bulk and strength. The central stamp features a tranquil forest landscape, visually linking the two animals to their shared habitat.
Printed in soft, painterly tones with detailed wildlife illustration, the design reflects the high artistic quality of Ukraine’s nature issues in the late 1990s. Species names appear in Ukrainian and Latin, reinforcing the educational and scientific value of the set. Each animal stamp carries a 20-kopiyok denomination.
This example is offered mint never hinged (MNH), with full original gum, bright color, and clean perforations. A striking wildlife issue for collectors of mammals, nature, Eastern European fauna, and Ukrainian philately.
