Description

Turkey Scott #B70–B72 (1958) — “35th Anniversary of the Republic of Turkey” — Mint Never Hinged (MNH)

Issued in 1958 by the Türkiye Cumhuriyeti Postaları (Republic of Turkey Post), this semi-postal set commemorates the 35th anniversary of the founding of the Turkish Republic (1923–1958). The three designs celebrate national progress and modernization under the vision of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, whose portrait anchors the central stamp.

  • 15 + 5 kuruş — Depicts a bulldozer leveling land for development, symbolizing modernization and national reconstruction.

  • 20 + 5 kuruş — Features a portrait of Atatürk, founder and first President of the Republic, representing leadership and reform.

  • 25 + 5 kuruş — Shows tanks and aircraft in motion, reflecting defense, progress, and technological achievement.

Printed by Güzel Sanatlar Matbaası, Istanbul, these stamps blend industrial realism with patriotic symbolism, typical of 1950s Turkish design. The surtax ( + 5 kuruş ) supported national causes and commemorative funds.
