Description
Turkey Scott #817 (1926) — “U.S. Independence Sesquicentennial” — Mint Never Hinged (MNH)
Issued in 1926 by Türkiye Postaları (Turkish Posts), this striking 2½ kuruş commemorative stamp was released to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the independence of the United States of America (1776–1926)—a gesture of international friendship and respect between the young Turkish Republic and the United States.
The bold, modernist design depicts a hand raising crossed flags—the Turkish crescent and star alongside the American stars and stripes—united beneath a radiant five-pointed star. The symbolic image conveys shared values of liberty and self-determination during an era of diplomatic renewal and modernization.
Printed in red, blue, olive, and silver-gray, the issue is a standout example of early Republican Turkey’s dynamic graphic design, celebrating both national pride and global connection.
