Description
Tunisia Scott #366–367 (1959–1960) — “World Refugee Year” Set, Mint Never Hinged (MNH)
Issued by the République Tunisienne in 1959 and 1960, this two-stamp commemorative set honors World Refugee Year, a global humanitarian initiative established by the United Nations to raise awareness and support for displaced populations following World War II.
The 20 millime stamp (Scott #366) features a stylized tree of life, its roots embracing a group of people—symbolizing shelter, renewal, and hope. The 40 millime stamp (Scott #367) depicts a mother and child in the form of a dove, an elegant and modernist emblem of peace and protection.
Designed with striking simplicity and rendered in deep blue-gray and magenta hues, these stamps reflect the era’s postcolonial optimism and Tunisia’s early years as an independent republic. Both values bear inscriptions in Arabic and French, underscoring the nation’s bilingual heritage and international engagement.
A meaningful and beautifully executed issue—an ideal addition for collectors interested in humanitarian themes, African independence, or mid-20th-century design.
