Tokelau – Scott # 24

Description

This attractive Tokelau Islands 25c issue (Scott #24), released in 1976, commemorates the General Jackson, a 19th-century sailing vessel commanded by Captain Smith in 1835. The ship is depicted in full sail, rendered in crisp maritime detail with masts, rigging, and hull coloring that evoke the era of early Pacific exploration and trade.

At right, the stamp includes a tidy map outline of Fakaofo, one of Tokelau’s three atolls, with coordinates noted—a classic geographic touch that appears on many early Tokelau issues. The soft pink background highlights the artwork while maintaining the distinctive clean, modern aesthetic typical of 1970s Tokelau designs.
