Togo – Scott #s B15-16

Description

This striking pair of Togo semi-postal stamps (Scott #B15–B16) was issued in 1960 to support refugee aid programs, a major international concern during the post-colonial and Cold War era. Both designs feature a radiant, stylized Tree of Life, symbolizing protection, renewal, and hope—an elegant visual metaphor for the mission of refugee assistance.

Each stamp includes a postal value plus a 5-franc surcharge, designated for relief efforts (“Aide aux Réfugiés”). The artwork, engraved by Dagan, uses fine linework and rich shading to create a sense of luminosity around the central tree.
