Togo — Wedding of Prince Charles & Lady Diana, Gold Foil Souvenir Sheets (Scott 1143A–1143B)

This mint never hinged pair of souvenir sheets from the Republic of Togo, cataloged as Scott #1143A and #1143B, was issued in 1981 to commemorate the marriage of Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer on 29 July 1981.

Each sheet features a central 500 franc stamp depicting formal portrait illustrations of the royal couple, framed by decorative borders. Scott #1143A is presented within a large gold foil souvenir sheet embossed with heraldic crests and French commemorative inscriptions. Scott #1143B is a companion sheet without the extensive foil surround, offering an alternate presentation of the same wedding theme.

The gold foil elements on Scott #1143A are highly reflective and do not reproduce accurately in scans; the foil is significantly more striking in hand than shown in images. Both sheets were produced specifically for the collector market during the peak era of topical royal wedding issues.
