Issued between 1899 and 1900, this 1d carmine-red stamp is part of Tasmania’s celebrated Pictorial Series, a landmark in early Australian colonial philately. The series is admired for its departure from traditional portrait designs, instead showcasing the island’s dramatic natural scenery.

Scott #87 features a finely engraved view of Mount Wellington, the prominent peak overlooking Hobart.
