Issued in 1935, Saar Scott B65–B66 are semi-postal (charity) stamps released during the League of Nations administration of the Saar Territory to support the Jugendherbergswerk (Youth Hostel Association). The organization promoted healthy recreation, affordable travel, and outdoor education for young people, reflecting a broader European movement to provide working-class youth with access to nature, culture, and structured leisure.

The designs depict cheerful hikers walking through rolling countryside toward traditional hostel buildings nestled among trees and hills. These idyllic scenes emphasize fresh air, physical activity, and community, presenting youth hostels as places of renewal and social connection. The inscription “JUGENDHERBERGSWERK” at the top clearly identifies the beneficiary organization, while “SAAR” anchors the stamps to their issuing territory.

The stamps are denominated 8 francs + 5 franc surtax (B65) and 10 francs + 7 franc surtax (B66). Printed in contrasting brown and green tones, they capture the pastoral charm and wholesome spirit associated with the youth hostel movement. The fine line engraving highlights architectural detail and landscape depth, typical of Saar’s high-quality charity issues of the mid-1930s.
