Issued in 1957, Saar Scott #306 is part of the Saarland definitive series produced after the territory’s reunification with the Federal Republic of Germany. During this transitional period, Saarland continued to issue stamps inscribed “SAARLAND” under the authority of the Deutsche Bundespost, reflecting its newly integrated political status.

The stamp features a finely engraved left-facing portrait of Theodor Heuss, the first President of West Germany. Executed in bright orange tones, the design exemplifies the clean, formal aesthetic of postwar German definitives. The inscriptions “SAARLAND”, “DEUTSCHE BUNDESPOST”, and the denomination 100 francs identify the stamp as part of Saarland’s short-lived but historically significant postal series.
