Issued in 1957, Saar Scott #286–287 are EUROPA commemoratives marking Saar’s formal integration into the postal system of the Federal Republic of Germany (Bundespost) following the territory’s reunification with Germany earlier that year. These stamps represent the final chapter of Saar as a separate postal entity.

Both designs feature the iconic EUROPA tree, a symbol of unity, peace, and shared European identity. The inscription “DEUTSCHE BUNDESPOST SAARLAND EUROPA” explicitly reflects Saar’s new status as a German federal state, while still emphasizing European cooperation in the postwar era.
