Description
Issued in 1932 during the League of Nations administration of the Saar Territory, Saar Scott #114 is a high-denomination pictorial definitive depicting an industrial mining complex rendered in finely engraved detail. The design emphasizes heavy industry and labor, underscoring the economic importance of coal mining to the Saar Basin.
The stamp is inscribed “SAARGEBIET” across the top and features a 2 franc denomination, placing it among the higher values of the later Saar pictorial series. Dense horizontal line engraving and bold framing give the stamp a strong, authoritative presence typical of early 1930s European industrial-themed stamp design.
This issue belongs to the final generation of Saar Territory stamps produced before the 1935 plebiscite that returned the region to Germany. High-value pictorials from this period are especially significant for illustrating Saar’s mature postal identity under international governance.
This example is offered unused, hinged, with original gum present, a light hinge mark, intact perforations, and strong overall eye appeal.
