Description

This is a mint never hinged (MNH) airmail stamp pair from Romania, Scott #C182a, issued in 1971 to commemorate early space exploration and lunar missions.

The pair illustrates two major achievements of the Soviet space program:

  • Luna 17 / Lunokhod 1 – depicting the first successful remote-controlled lunar rover operating on the Moon’s surface

  • Luna 16 – showing an unmanned spacecraft returning lunar soil samples to Earth

Rendered in vivid blues and earth tones, the designs combine scientific accuracy with imaginative illustration, reflecting the optimism and technological ambition of the early 1970s space era. The stamps capture both surface exploration and orbital mechanics, making them especially attractive to collectors of space history, airmail issues, and Cold War–era science themes.

The “a” designation indicates this issue was released as a se-tenant pair, intended to be collected together as a single unit.

Condition:
Mint never hinged (MNH). Original gum intact and undisturbed. Clean, fresh color, intact perforations, and well-preserved se-tenant format.
