Portugal – Scott #895–897 (1962) were issued to celebrate the 500th anniversary of the birth of Prince Henry the Navigator (Infante Dom Henrique), one of Portugal’s most revered figures from the Age of Discovery. Each stamp features a bold portrait of Prince Henry framed by nautical motifs and the Cross of the Order of Christ, symbolizing Portugal’s maritime legacy. The denominations include 1$00 red, 1$50 blue, and 3$50 green, all finely printed by Casa da Moeda with the inscription “Infante D. Henrique 1460–1960.” These stamps commemorate Portugal’s pioneering role in exploration and navigation during the 15th century. This set is used, with clear postmarks and strong color retention—excellent examples of mid-20th-century Portuguese commemoratives.
