China (PRC) Scott #225–228 – MNH (Set of 4)

1954 – Ancient Chinese Artifacts
Condition: Mint Never Hinged (MNH) – Issued Without Gum

A complete four-stamp set from the People’s Republic of China, issued in 1954, showcasing important archaeological artifacts from China’s early cultural periods. Printed in single-color intaglio with elegant framing motifs, these stamps are admired for their refined engraving and historical themes. As issued, these stamps were printed without gum, and this set retains the original ungummed condition.

The set includes:

  • Scott #225 — 800y (black)
Shang Dynasty stone carving — A stylized animal form rendered with intricate geometric motifs.

  • Scott #226 — 800y (red purple)
Western Zhou Dynasty lacquerware — A pair of beautifully patterned vessels from an early ritual context.

  • Scott #227 — 800y (brown)
Neolithic pottery (Xinzheng) — Two classic earthenware jars with characteristic linear decoration.

  • Scott #228 — 800y (blue-green)
Han Dynasty bronze ritual basin — An ornate rectangular vessel with raised Taotie-style masks and decorative borders.

All four are clean, well-centered examples with sharp impressions—an excellent set for collectors of PRC early issues, Chinese archaeology, and engraved art on stamps.
