Description

Issued in 1975 to commemorate Papua New Guinea’s independence, this elegant miniature sheet features two se-tenant designs symbolizing national unity and identity at the dawn of a new era.

  • Left stamp (7t): Shows the national flag of Papua New Guinea superimposed on a map of the Pacific region.

  • Right stamp (30t): Depicts the national emblem—a bird of paradise above a traditional spear and kundu drum—over a blue ocean map.

Both designs are bordered by traditional tapa cloth motifs, representing the blending of ancient heritage and modern nationhood. The issue bears the single-word inscription “INDEPENDENCE”, marking the official separation from Australian administration on September 16, 1975.

Printed by the Note Printing Branch, Melbourne, this sheet is a landmark piece for collectors of Commonwealth independence issues and Pacific history.
