Description

Netherlands Scott #657–658 is a 1979 Europa commemorative pair celebrating 25 years of European postal cooperation, marking the period 1959–1984 associated with the Europa–CEPT stamp program. Europa issues were jointly released by European postal administrations to promote cooperation, shared identity, and cultural unity across Europe.

Both stamps feature a stylized bridge motif spanning flowing water, a powerful visual metaphor for international connection, communication, and cooperation. The bridge design echoes a common Europa theme emphasizing unity while allowing each country to present the design in its own national style. The clean, modernist layout and restrained color palette are characteristic of late-20th-century Dutch graphic design.

The set consists of two denominations:

  • 50¢ in blue

  • 70¢ in green

Issued as regular commemorative stamps with no surcharge, they were valid for standard postal use within the Netherlands. Europa stamps remain highly collectible as pan-European thematic issues and are popular with collectors of modern design, European history, and international organizations.

Offered here as a complete matched set in mint never hinged (MNH) condition, with full original gum, fresh color, and sharp perforations throughout.
