Description

This Netherlands commemorative stamp pair, Scott #413–414, issued in 1954, promotes the international campaign “Z naareen wereld vrij van honger” (“Towards a world free from hunger”). The issue reflects postwar humanitarian priorities and the growing role of international cooperation in addressing global food security.

Both stamps feature a bold, modernist design centered on stylized wheat sheaves, symbolizing agriculture, nourishment, and sustenance. The wheat is set against a background of radiating grid lines, suggesting global reach, planning, and coordinated effort. The graphic language is clean and optimistic, characteristic of mid-1950s European social-issue stamp design.

The two denominations are distinguished by color: the 12 cent value printed in blue-green tones and the 30 cent value in warm red-brown shades.
