Description

This unused hinged commemorative stamp from Malaya – Trengganu, Scott #74, was issued in 1953 to commemorate the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. With a denomination of 10 cents, it forms part of the coordinated British Commonwealth Coronation issues released across Malaya and other Commonwealth territories to mark the accession of the new monarch.

The design features a formal engraved portrait of Queen Elizabeth II wearing the coronation crown, set within an oval frame against a finely patterned geometric background. The inscription “2nd June 1953” records the coronation date, while “Malaya Trengganu” identifies the issuing state. The balanced layout and restrained engraving style are characteristic of mid-20th-century Commonwealth commemoratives.

As an issue from Trengganu (Terengganu), this stamp is of particular interest to collectors of Malaya, the States of Malaya, and British Commonwealth colonial philately. It represents both a significant royal event and a moment from the closing years of British administration in the region.

The stamp is offered unused, hinged, with original gum present and a hinge mark on the reverse.
