Description
This unused hinged commemorative stamp from Malaya – Malacca, Scott #27, was issued in 1953 to commemorate the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. With a denomination of 10 cents, it forms part of the coordinated British Commonwealth coronation issues released across colonies and territories to mark the accession of the new monarch.
The design features a formal portrait of Queen Elizabeth II wearing the coronation crown, enclosed within an oval frame and set against a finely patterned geometric background. The inscription “2nd June 1953” marks the coronation date, while the clear “Malaya Malacca” inscription identifies the issuing state. The restrained engraving style and balanced layout are characteristic of mid-century Commonwealth commemoratives.
As an issue from Malacca, one of the Straits Settlements and later Malayan states, this stamp is of particular interest to collectors of Malaya, Southeast Asia, and British Commonwealth philately. It represents a significant royal event and a key moment in the final years of British colonial administration in the region.
The stamp is offered unused, hinged, with original gum present and a hinge mark on the reverse.
