Description
Issued in 1974, Macao Scott #433–434 commemorate the Ponte Macau–Taipa, the first permanent bridge linking the Macao Peninsula with the island of Taipa. Released under Portuguese administration, the stamps mark a major milestone in Macao’s modern infrastructure and urban development.
Both designs depict the bridge spanning coastal waters, rendered from slightly different perspectives and denominations to emphasize scale and engineering achievement. The structure is shown elevated on evenly spaced supports, with small vessels passing beneath, reinforcing Macao’s maritime setting. Subtle landscape elements frame the bridge, balancing technical subject matter with a sense of place.
Scott #433 carries a denomination of 20 avos and presents a broader, more distant view of the bridge, while Scott #434, denominated 2.50 patacas, offers a closer, more dramatic angle emphasizing height and span. The inscriptions “PONTE MACAU–TAIPA” and “INAUGURADA EM 1974” clearly identify the subject and commemorative purpose. Printed in soft, pastel-toned colors, the stamps reflect late-period Portuguese colonial design favoring clarity and realism.
These examples are offered used, each bearing visible postal cancellations consistent with circulation. Both stamps retain strong color, clear printed detail, and intact perforations.
