Description

Liechtenstein — Philatelists & Stamp Designers, Portrait Series (Scott 447–451, 509–511)

This mint never hinged group from the Principality of Liechtenstein, cataloged as Scott #447–451 and #509–511, honors prominent figures in philately, stamp design, and postal history through finely engraved portrait stamps issued during the mid-20th century.

The series features eight individual portraits, including Sir Rowland Hill, Philippe de Ferrari, Emilio Diena, André de Cock, Carl Lindenberg, Maurice Burrus, Théodore Champion, and Théodore E. Steinway. Each stamp presents a formal engraved bust portrait paired with the subject’s name and life dates, reflecting Liechtenstein’s long-standing tradition of recognizing contributions to international stamp collecting and postal scholarship.

Denominations range from 20 rappen to 1.30 francs, printed in varied color palettes with strong contrast and crisp engraving. Designed by A. Pilch and printed by Courvoisier S.A., the stamps exhibit excellent detail, balanced layouts, and consistent production quality typical of Liechtenstein commemoratives of this period.

All stamps are offered mint never hinged with full original gum. The set is clean, well-centered overall, with fresh color, sharp impressions, and intact perforations throughout. A desirable grouping for collectors of Liechtenstein, philately-themed issues, stamp designers, or classic commemorative portrait series.
