Description
This powerful and beautifully designed Lebanon airmail issue (Scott #C284) was released in 1960 to commemorate the Anniversary of World Refugee Year (1959–1960)—a global humanitarian campaign recognizing the plight of displaced people worldwide. The stamp features a stylized tree with radiating leaves and visible roots, symbolizing both loss and renewal, as well as the universal human desire for stability and home.
Printed in rich sepia-brown tones, the design is clean, modernist, and unmistakably mid-20th-century Lebanese in aesthetic. The bilingual inscriptions (French and Arabic) add to its international humanitarian message. This example is Mint Never Hinged, with full original gum and excellent color—an ideal addition for collectors of refugee-themed issues, United Nations topics, Middle Eastern philately, or airmail classics.
Despite its serious theme, it’s also simply a gorgeous piece of design: dignified, symbolic, and quietly moving.
