Description

This elegant Lebanon 4-piastres issue (Scott #125), printed in 1925, features a beautifully engraved view of the historic Nahr el-Kelb (Dog River) Bridge, a site layered with history dating back to antiquity. The surrounding cliffs and river gorge are rendered in warm sepia-brown tones, framed by intricate Arabic and French ornamental borders that showcase the early artistic style of the République Libanaise period.

The stamp was designed by J. de la Nézière and printed by Héliogravure Vaugirard, both of whom contributed heavily to Lebanon’s rich early pictorial series. This example is used, with a clear and attractive circular cancel that enhances rather than obscures the central vignette.
