Description
This moving and beautifully engraved Laos airmail set (Scott #C31–C34) was issued in 1957 to commemorate the 3rd Anniversary of the Lao Red Cross. Designed by the celebrated French artist Marc Leguay—whose work defined some of the most iconic Lao issues—these stamps depict a young Lao mother caring for her infant. The image is intimate, tender, and deeply human, reflecting the Red Cross mission of compassion and care.
Each stamp uses the same central design, printed in different color combinations to distinguish the denominations:
-
C31 (8k – Black & Blue)
-
C32 (12k – Red Brown)
-
C33 (15k – Green & Black)
-
C34 (20k – Violet & Brown)
The engraving is exceptionally fine, capturing the folds of the mother’s clothing, the soft gesture of her arms, and the quiet gaze of the child. The Red Cross emblem appears in the top right of each stamp, balancing traditional Lao script and the French-language commemorative inscription.
All four stamps are Mint Never Hinged, with crisp impressions, bright color, and pristine gum. An essential set for collectors of Red Cross themes, Marc Leguay artworks, Laotian culture, or classic Southeast Asian engraved issues.
