Description
Laos (Kingdom) — UNESCO Nubian Monuments Preservation Issues 4k–10k (Scott 89–91)
This visually compelling commemorative trio from the Kingdom of Laos, cataloged as Scott 89–91, was issued in support of UNESCO’s international campaign to safeguard the monuments of Nubia, undertaken during the construction of the Aswan High Dam. The set reflects global cooperation in the preservation of ancient cultural heritage.
Scott 89 (4 kip) features a map of the Nile Valley marked with key Nubian archaeological sites, paired with temple imagery and the UNESCO emblem, emphasizing the geographic scope of the preservation effort.
Scott 90 (6 kip) presents the same thematic elements in a different color palette, highlighting major temples and relocation sites threatened by rising waters.
Scott 91 (10 kip) completes the set with deeper tones and bold contrast, reinforcing the urgency and importance of protecting irreplaceable monuments such as Abu Simbel and Philae.
Each stamp combines cartographic detail, monumental sculpture imagery, and multilingual inscriptions in Lao script and French. All three stamps are offered in mint never hinged (MNH) condition, retaining full original gum, sharp perforations, and strong, unfaded color.
A historically significant and visually rich set appealing to collectors of UNESCO issues, archaeology, world heritage preservation, and Southeast Asian philately.
