Description
This impressive Laos Lions Club commemorative set (Scott #237, #238, and C103) was issued in 1966–67 during the era of the Kingdom of Laos (Royaume du Laos). The set honors Lions Clubs International and the founding of the Lions Club of Vientiane, blending international philanthropy with classic Lao artistic motifs.
Scott #C103 (Airmail – 150k)
A richly detailed airmail issue featuring the Lions Club emblem, a large commemorative crest, and a prominent Lao monument in soft violet tones. The central seated figure, temple architecture, and procedural banners give this stamp both ceremonial gravitas and strong visual appeal. A striking, large-format piece.
Scott #237 (40k – Guardian Lion, Violet-Rose)
Depicts a traditional Lao guardian lion (singha) in sculptural detail, seated proudly before classical columns. The Lions International insignia appears above, integrating global service with local symbolism. The engraving is superb, with deep rose-violet shading that gives the statue a sense of movement.
Scott #238 (80k – Guardian Lion, Orange-Rose)
A companion to #237, this issue features the same guardian-lion sculpture but in warm orange and rose hues. The shift in color palette gives the lion a glowing, sunlit quality, making the pair especially attractive as a set.
All three stamps are Mint Never Hinged, boasting fresh gum, crisp impressions, and rich coloring. Perfect for collectors of Laotian culture, Lions Clubs, service-organization themes, mythological guardian figures, or mid-century engraved issues of Southeast Asia. A beautiful and highly collectible set.
