Description
Issued in 1959, Israel Scott #138–141 is a complete Ships of Israel commemorative set, issued with their original tabs intact. The series traces the development of maritime activity connected to Jewish history and the modern State of Israel, blending biblical symbolism with contemporary seafaring achievement.
The designs progress chronologically, beginning with an ancient sail vessel evocative of early Mediterranean trade, followed by increasingly modern merchant ships, and culminating in a large contemporary passenger liner. Each stamp is paired with a tab bearing a biblical quotation related to ships, the sea, or redemption, printed in Hebrew with English translation. The combination of vivid mid-century color palettes and clean graphic illustration gives the set a distinctly modern yet symbolic character.
Denominations of 10pr, 20pr, 30pr, and 1000pr were intended to serve a wide range of domestic and international postal rates. Israeli stamps with tabs are especially desirable, as the tabs were often removed during use, and intact tabbed sets offer added historical and visual context beyond the stamp design itself.
This set is offered mint never hinged (MNH) with full tabs, displaying fresh color, clean original gum, sharp perforations, and well-centered tabs throughout. A premium-quality issue ideal for collectors of Israel, maritime themes, or biblical references on stamps.
