Description
Issued in 1963, Iraq Scott #333–335 commemorates the Freedom from Hunger Campaign, an international initiative led by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) to combat hunger and promote agricultural development worldwide. Iraq’s participation in this campaign reflects the republic’s emphasis on food security, rural livelihoods, and international cooperation during the early 1960s.
The set consists of three stamps, each illustrating a different aspect of agriculture and food production. One design depicts a shepherd among a flock of sheep, highlighting pastoral life and livestock husbandry. Another shows a farmer carrying harvested grain, symbolizing labor, sustenance, and rural productivity. The third features a date palm grove, an iconic element of Iraq’s agricultural landscape and a vital food resource in the region.
All three stamps include bilingual inscriptions in Arabic and English, with “REPUBLIC OF IRAQ” at the top and “FREEDOM FROM HUNGER CAMPAIGN 21.3.1963” along the side. Wheat motifs appear as recurring decorative elements, reinforcing the campaign’s agricultural focus. The stamps were printed by Bundesdruckerei, Berlin, a noted European security printer frequently used by Middle Eastern postal administrations at the time.
The set includes the following denominations:
-
3 fils (green)
-
10 fils (red)
-
20 fils (blue)
