Description
Issued in 1967, Iran Scott #945–946 commemorates the royal wedding of Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi and Empress Farah Pahlavi, an event that was widely celebrated in Iran and prominently marked through commemorative postage. Royal weddings were major state occasions, and stamps issued for such events served both ceremonial and propagandistic roles, emphasizing continuity, stability, and national pride.
Both stamps feature a formal portrait of the royal couple, shown together in a composed and dignified pose. Empress Farah is depicted with a poised elegance, while the Shah appears in military uniform, reinforcing his role as head of state. The designs are framed simply, allowing the paired portrait to dominate, with inscriptions in Persian and “IRAN” in English below.
The set consists of two denominations:
-
1.50 rials, printed in red
-
2.50 rials, printed in blue
The clean layout and restrained color palettes are typical of mid-1960s Iranian commemoratives, balancing photographic realism with formal stamp presentation. Issues such as this are closely associated with the late Pahlavi era and are popular with collectors interested in modern Iranian history and monarchy-themed philately.
This pair is offered unused, hinged, retaining original gum with evidence of prior hinging. Both stamps show strong color, clear detail, and intact perforations.
