Description
Issued in 1926, Iran Scott #C28 is an early airmail stamp from the transitional period between the late Qajar era and the rise of the Pahlavi state. Airmail service was still a developing technology at the time, and stamps such as this reflect Iran’s early participation in modern aviation and postal innovation.
The design is based on a traditional Persian ornamental frame, overprinted with a bold biplane motif flying diagonally across the stamp, symbolizing the advent of airmail transport. The French inscription “Poste Aérienne” identifies the stamp’s airmail function, consistent with international postal conventions of the era. The overprint stands in deliberate contrast to the intricate background pattern, emphasizing speed and modernity against a classical decorative setting.
Printed in red with a black overprint and denominated in krans (Kr), this stamp belongs to Iran’s first generation of airmail issues. Such overprinted designs are especially appealing to collectors for their combination of traditional artistry and early aviation themes.
This example is offered used, bearing a clear postal cancellation consistent with genuine airmail circulation. The stamp retains strong design contrast, legible overprint, and intact perforations with expected wear.
