Description
Issued in the early 1960s, Iran Scott #1379 is a commemorative stamp combining modern monarchy imagery with ancient Persian heritage. The design pairs a portrait of Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi with a panoramic view of Persepolis, the ceremonial capital of the Achaemenid Empire, underscoring the Pahlavi state’s emphasis on continuity between Iran’s imperial past and its contemporary nationhood.
The stamp features an oval-framed portrait of the Shah at right, rendered in a clean, photographic style typical of mid-20th-century Iranian issues. To the left stretches a detailed view of the ruins of Persepolis, with its iconic columns and monumental stone architecture rising from the plain. A small crown emblem appears above, reinforcing royal symbolism, while inscriptions in Persian and “IRAN” in English identify the issuing country.
Printed in monochromatic blue tones and denominated 6 rials, the stamp reflects the restrained, dignified aesthetic favored for national commemoratives during this period. The juxtaposition of ruler and ruins visually links the modern Pahlavi monarchy to Iran’s ancient imperial legacy.
This example is offered mint never hinged (MNH), retaining full original gum with no hinge marks. The stamp shows fresh color, sharp detail, and intact perforations.
