Issued in 1990, Iceland Scott #686–687 are part of Iceland’s wildlife series depicting native waterfowl species commonly found in wetlands and coastal areas. These stamps continue Iceland’s long tradition of producing high-quality, naturalistic bird issues noted for both artistic excellence and scientific accuracy.

Scott #686 illustrates the Eurasian wigeon (Anas penelope), shown swimming in calm water, with careful attention given to plumage detail and coloration.
