Issued in 1988, Iceland Scott #654–655 commemorate two of Iceland’s most influential literary figures, honoring their lasting contributions to Icelandic poetry and national culture. These stamps reflect Iceland’s strong tradition of celebrating literature, language, and artistic expression through philately.

The pair features portrait designs accompanied by excerpts of handwritten poetry and printed verses, creating a visually intimate and intellectual presentation. Scott #654 honors Steinn Steinarr (1908–1958), a modernist poet known for his existential themes and lyrical intensity.
