Description

Issued in the 1960s as part of Iceland’s botanical definitive series, Iceland Scott #309–310 depict flowering plants rendered in a clean, modern illustrative style. These stamps reflect Iceland’s mid-20th-century shift toward nature-focused themes and simplified graphic design in its definitive issues.

The designs feature individual plants shown in full bloom against softly colored backgrounds, emphasizing form and color rather than ornamental framing. The 1 króna value illustrates a red flowering plant, while the 2.50 krónur value shows a violet-blue flower with yellow accents. Both stamps are inscribed “ÍSLAND” at the base, consistent with Icelandic definitives of the period.

Floral definitives such as this pair were widely used in everyday postal service and are representative of Iceland’s effort to highlight national identity through natural imagery. Issues from this era are especially popular with collectors of Scandinavian philately and thematic flora and botany collections.

This pair is offered unused, hinged, with original gum present, light hinge marks, intact perforations, and fresh color, displaying very good overall eye appeal.
