Description

Hungary Scott #2581–2583 (issued 1979) is a three-stamp commemorative set marking the 30th anniversary of the Council for Mutual Economic Assistance (CMEA or COMECON — in Hungarian, KGST), the economic organization of socialist states led by the USSR. The series highlights major achievements in industrial and energy cooperation among member nations, reflecting the technological optimism and modernist design style of late-1970s Hungarian philately.

Designed by L. Dudás, each stamp uses bold geometric forms and clean color contrasts to depict industrial progress and socialist collaboration.

Designs in the Set:

  • 1 Ft – “Szovjet Gázvezeték” (Soyuz Gas Pipeline): Depicts a natural gas distribution facility and pipeline system, symbolizing energy cooperation among COMECON members.

  • 2 Ft – “750 kV-os Távvezeték” (750 kV Power Transmission Line): Shows a large hydroelectric dam and transmission towers, representing cross-border electrical power projects.

  • 3 Ft – “30 Éves a KGST” (30 Years of the CMEA): Features the red COMECON star emblem with abbreviations of member states and organizations, symbolizing unity in socialist economic development.

Printed in bright, industrial color palettes of turquoise, red, and violet, this mint, never hinged (MNH) set exemplifies Magyar Posta’s technical precision and design sophistication during the Cold War era. It remains an excellent example of Eastern Bloc industrial and political-themed philately.
