Description
Hungary Scott #2282–2287 (issued 1974) is a six-stamp commemorative set marking the 100th anniversary of the Universal Postal Union (UPU), founded in 1874 in Bern, Switzerland. This colorful and imaginative issue by Magyar Posta celebrates a century of international cooperation in postal communication, symbolized through evolving methods of mail transport—from stagecoaches and balloons to modern trains and aircraft.
Each design features a mode of postal delivery paired with the UPU emblem, depicted as a winged messenger encircling the globe, representing global unity through mail. Designed by Edgar Cziglényi, the series is both a historical tribute and a showcase of bold Hungarian graphic design from the 1970s.
