Description
Hong Kong – Scott #185–192 (1954–1960) / Queen Elizabeth II First Definitive Issue / Used Set
This is the used set of Hong Kong’s first definitive stamp series issued under Queen Elizabeth II, released between 1954 and 1960.
These stamps marked the beginning of a new era in the colony’s postal history, following the close of the reign of King George VI. The design features a finely engraved left-facing portrait of the young Queen Elizabeth II, paired with distinctive Chinese characters and classical frame ornamentation — a style unique to Hong Kong and instantly recognizable among British Commonwealth collectors.
The set includes all eight values, each printed in a bold single-color scheme:
| Scott # | Denomination | Color |
|---|---|---|
| #185 | 5¢ | Orange |
| #186 | 10¢ | Violet |
| #187 | 15¢ | Green |
| #188 | 20¢ | Brown |
| #189 | 25¢ | Carmine |
| #190 | 30¢ | Grey |
| #191 | 40¢ | Blue |
| #192 | 50¢ | Deep Rose |
Each stamp in this set is postally used, with legible cancellations and attractive overall appearance. Several examples include clear circular date cancels and crisp strikes, adding to their historical and philatelic character.
