Description

Hong Kong – Scott #174–175 (1946) / Victory Issue / 30¢ & $1 “Resurgo” / Unused, Hinged

Issued in 1946 to commemorate the Allied victory in World War II, the Hong Kong Victory Issue is among the most dramatic and symbolic postwar designs of the British Commonwealth. The Latin motto “Resurgo” (“I rise again”) at the base of the design captures the spirit of Hong Kong’s rebirth after the Japanese occupation (1941–45).

Both stamps depict King George VI within a circular frame, flanked by heraldic lions and the mythic phoenix rising from flames, symbolizing Hong Kong’s resilience and renewal. The bilingual text highlights the colony’s cultural and political duality. These stamps were printed by Bradbury Wilkinson & Co., showcasing their hallmark engraving excellence.

This set includes both values:

  • 30¢ Blue & Carmine (Scott #174)

  • $1 Black & Carmine (Scott #175)

Each example offered here is unused, lightly hinged, with bright color and strong impression — a fine addition to any collection of British colonial or World War II–era commemorative issues.
