Description
Hong Kong Scott #76 (issued 1903) is the 10-cent ultramarine and brown King Edward VII definitive from the distinguished De La Rue “Crown and Scroll” series. This handsome bi-colored issue features a finely engraved left-facing portrait of King Edward VII in brown, set within an ornate ultramarine frame decorated with scrollwork and imperial motifs. The design includes “HONG KONG” at the top and “TEN CENTS” at the bottom, with the Chinese inscriptions “十先” (“ten cents”) and “香港” (“Hong Kong”) vertically flanking the sides.
This used example bears a clear postal cancellation, with the colors remaining rich and well-contrasted — the deep ultramarine frame perfectly complementing the warm brown vignette. Issued at the height of British colonial influence in East Asia, the stamp embodies both the precision of De La Rue engraving and the elegance of Edwardian design. A prized collectible for those specializing in Hong Kong classics or early 20th-century British Commonwealth issues.
