Description
Hong Kong – Scott #184 (1953) / Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II / 10¢ / Unused, Hinged
Issued in 1953 to commemorate the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, this elegant commemorative stamp reflects the transition to a new era in British Hong Kong. The design features a finely engraved portrait of the young queen wearing the Diamond Diadem, framed within an oval medallion and crowned with the inscription:
“Coronation – 2nd June 1953.”
The rich purple and black color scheme conveys dignity, continuity, and imperial ceremony, and the stamp’s clean geometric background engraving shows the crisp detail characteristic of mid-century Commonwealth printing.
This example is unused, with original gum, lightly hinged, and well-centered with strong color. A desirable historical issue marking the beginning of one of the longest reigns in world history.
