Description

Hong Kong – Scott #156 (1938–48) Used, King George VI Definitive, 4¢ Yellow-Orange
Issued as part of the 1938–1948 King George VI definitive series, this 4-cent yellow-orange stamp features the left-facing profile portrait of King George VI, rendered in a clean, engraved style. The frame incorporates Chinese inscriptions identifying both the colony (Hong Kong) and the denomination, along with small crown emblems in the upper corners and decorative corner scrollwork.

These definitives were widely used across Hong Kong during a pivotal era that included pre-war stability, Japanese occupation, and post-war reconstruction. Because of their heavy postal use, nicely struck cancellations and strong color are particularly desirable.

This stamp is postally used, showing a clear HONG KONG circular date cancel with solid color and intact perforations.
