Issued in 1887, Great Britain Scott #111 is the ½d vermilion Queen Victoria Jubilee issue, released as part of the celebrated Jubilee coinage design series marking the 50th anniversary of Queen Victoria’s accession to the throne. This series represented a major stylistic shift from earlier Victorian definitives, introducing a more ornate, medal-inspired portrait and decorative framing.

The design features a crowned left-facing portrait of Queen Victoria within a distinctive geometric frame inscribed POSTAGE & REVENUE ONE HALF PENNY. Printed in vermilion by surface printing, the stamp reflects both the ceremonial nature of the Jubilee issue and the continued practical need for low-denomination values used primarily for printed matter and newspapers.

Jubilee issues were produced in large quantities and saw heavy postal use, making used examples an authentic reflection of late Victorian postal history.
