Description
Issued in 1960, this complete mint never hinged set (Scott #915–919) continues France’s solemn Héros de la Résistance commemorative series, honoring individuals and groups who sacrificed their lives resisting Nazi occupation during World War II. The stamps combine engraved portraiture with laurel motifs, reinforcing themes of remembrance, courage, and national conscience.
The set includes:
• Yvonne Le Roux (1882–1945), resistance courier and organizer
• Cinq Martyrs du Lycée Buffon, five Parisian students executed in 1943 for resistance activity
• Frédéric Védy (1909–1944), resistance organizer and liaison
• Louis Martin-Bret (1898–1944), resistance leader and coordinator
• Gaston Moutarde (1889–1944), resistance operative and martyr
Denominations range from 15f to 30f, with each stamp individually color-keyed while maintaining a cohesive visual identity across the set. The inclusion of both individual portraits and a collective memorial stamp (the Lycée Buffon martyrs) adds historical and emotional depth to the series.
All five stamps are offered mint never hinged, with full original gum, clean margins, sharp perforations, and fresh, unfaded color throughout. A historically significant set for collectors of France, World War II history, and Resistance-themed philately.
