Description

Issued in 1985, France Scott #1974–1975 are part of the annual EUROPA series coordinated by CEPT, with that year’s shared theme dedicated to music and Europe’s musical heritage.

Scott 1974 (2.10f) honors Adam de la Halle (c.1240–1285), one of the earliest known composers of secular polyphonic music. The design shows the composer at work beneath Gothic architectural framing, with musical notation woven into the background, evoking the medieval origins of European art music.
Scott 1975 (3.00f) commemorates Darius Milhaud (1892–1974), a leading 20th-century composer and member of Les Six. The engraved portrait is accompanied by musical notation, representing France’s modern contribution to European composition.

Together, the pair traces a broad arc of European musical history, from medieval song and courtly tradition to modern orchestral and chamber music, unified by the Europa emblem and a restrained blue-toned palette.

Both stamps are offered mint never hinged, with full original gum, clean margins, sharp perforations, and fresh, unfaded color throughout.
