Description
Issued in 1949, France Scott C28 is an air mail (poste aérienne) stamp commemorating the C.I.T.T. (Conférence Internationale des Transports et Télécommunications) held in Paris. The design celebrates modern air transport and international cooperation in the postwar period, themes central to France’s aviation and communications policy at mid-century.
The engraved vignette depicts a monumental Parisian bridge flanked by sculptural columns, with aircraft flying overhead, visually linking the grandeur of the capital with the speed and reach of contemporary aviation. Classical architecture and modern flight are deliberately juxtaposed, underscoring continuity between tradition and technological progress.
Printed in a single rich carmine tone, the stamp is denominated 100 francs and was intended specifically for air mail use. It remains a visually striking example of France’s postwar airmail issues.
This example is offered mint hinged, with original gum present, a light hinge mark, clean margins, sharp perforations, and strong overall color.
